Our  church was named for Berry James Meadow who bought 515 acres of land from
Robert Bloomfield in 1877 at the corner of George Edwards Rd on Ga. 191.

In 1910 Mrs. Auzzie Bruce and Mrs. Josie Turner saw the need for a Sunday School, which
was organized in the nearby Meadow Academy on Feb. 12, 1911. W. D. Meadow was
elected its first Superintendent. "He made a good one. The Sunday school was real good
too," wrote J.W Stephens in a letter describing the increasing need for a church.

On July 25, 1912 the church officially organized with 38 members. W.D. Meadow was
elected church clerk, pro tem. When they adjourned they were a constituted church, without
a building, without a pastor. But "they had the leadership of  the Holy Spirit, and capable
minds, which would lead them forward."

In September the church had its first pastor, J.C. West, who served until December, and
Rev. E.R. Goss was elected as first regular pastor. Evangelist B.G. Smith said this: "We
believe here is a church that is going to accomplish great things for Christ."

A great, three week tent revival was held in the field under the brush arbor, and by
September the membership rolls contained names of those who had moved their letter to this
new church and those who had been newly baptised during the revival. By September 1912,
Meadow Baptist Church membership stood at 118.

Our Church
By W.D.Meadow

May we linger where we love
thinking of things eternally above,
Then, let us think and ponder,
with those here, there, and yonder,
Loving, looking into each face, and to
God for mercy and grace,
                         With such a tender handshake,
then may He our souls take.
If My people who are called by My name will humble
themselves and pray and seek My face, and turn from their
wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and forgive their
sin and heal their land.
